Early 1930's moleskin hunting jacket."V" neck collar, leather patch on right shoulder, buttons up the front with early casein buttons, 1 open top chest pocket, 2 hip pockets with "Kwik" zippers, pockets have deep double pleats down their centers, large back pouch has a deep double pleat down the center and zips up the sides with "Talon" zippers, back belt has a slide type adjustment with "teeth" to hold it in place, sleeve cuffs have tabs and 2 buttons each for adjusting the fit, hanging loop inside back of neckline.
Brown duck label hangs inside the back of the neck (only faint bits of what was printed on it remain)

Hand stitched linen-canvas outer in white with residual grass stain and rust spot to right toe with a water mark. Woven cotton laces with steel tip lace pulls. Sixteen painted grommets. Hobo nickels…

The altering of coins dates to the 18th century or earlier. Beginning in the 1750s, the most common form of coin alteration was the "potty coin", engraved on United States Seated Liberty coinage (half dime through trade dollar). This time period was also the heyday of the love token, which was made by machine-smoothing a coin (usually silver) on one or both sides, then engraving it with initials, monograms, names, scenes, etc., often with an ornate border. Hundreds of thousands of coins were altered in this manner. They were often mounted on pins or incorporated into bracelets and necklaces. The love token fad faded out in the early 20th century; love tokens engraved on buffalo nickels are rare.
Many artists made hobo nickels in the 1910s and 1920s, with new artists joining in as the years went by. The 1930s saw many talented artists adopting the medium. Bertram Wiegand, known almost exclusively as Bert, began carving nickels in the teens, and his student George Washington Hughes, known as Bo, began carving in the late teens (and up to 1980). During this period, Buffalo nickels were the most common nickels in circulation.

Apache danse…

Apache is a highly dramatic dance associated in popular culture with Parisian street culture in the beginning of the 20th century. The name of the dance is taken from a Parisian street gang, which in turn was named for the American Indian tribe due to the perceived savagery of the hoodlums. The term came to be used more generally to refer to certain vicious elements of the Paris underworld at the beginning of the 20th century.

The dance is sometimes said to reenact a violent "discussion" between a pimp and a prostitute. It includes mock slaps and punches, the man picking up and throwing the woman to the ground, or lifting and carrying her while she struggles or feigns unconsciousness. Thus, the dance shares many features with the theatrical discipline of stage combat. In some examples, the woman may fight back.

Left side victorian style buttoned jacket with heavy right side double lining (shoulder chest and sleeves) for rifle detonation. Hankle buttoned pants. Typical ivory/bones buttons (complete). Very elegant suit for dandy's hunter…incredible condition for incredible clothes…Bye Bye old friend and have new good times in the rising fun forests…

Blue Calico (part 1)

Early Indian chintzes, that is a glazed calico with large floral pattern, were primarily produced by painting techniques. Later, the hues were applied by means of wooden blocks, and it was the wooden block printing that was used in London. Confusingly, linen and silk that was printed by this method was known as linen calicoes and silk calicoes. The early European calicoes (1680) would thus be a cheap equal weft and warp plain weave cotton fabric in white, cream or unbleached cotton, with a block printed design using a single alizarin dye, fixed with two mordants giving a red and black pattern. Polychromatic prints could be done, with two sets of blocks and an additional blue dye. The Indian taste was for dark printed backgrounds while the European market preferred a pattern on a cream base. As the century progressed the European preference moved from the large chintz patterns to a smaller, tighter patterns.

Let's just talk about Miss FLO…queen of the aviator cool style!

Florence Lowe "Pancho" Barnes (July 22, 1901 – March 30, 1975) was a pioneer aviator, the founder of the first test pilots union and the owner of the Happy Bottom Riding Club, a bar and restaurant. She broke Amelia Earhart's air speed record in 1930. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines, and raced in the Women's Air Derby.
Pancho had extensive connections in Hollywood. Her early close friend George Hurrell later would become the legendary head of the portrait department of MGM Studios.
On her land, Pancho Barnes built the Happy Bottom Riding Club, also known as the Rancho Oro Verde Fly-Inn Dude Ranch, a dude ranch and restaurant which catered to airm en at the nearby airfield and her friends from Hollywood. Pancho became very close friends with many of the early test pilots, including Chuck Yeager, General Jimmy Doolittle, and Buzz Aldrin. Pancho's ranch became famous for the parties and high-flying lifestyle of all the guests.
Pancho was scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Antelope Valley Aero Museum's annual "Barnstormers Reunion" on April 5, 1975. She died few days after in her ranch at the age of 74. Her son requested special permission from the United States Air Force to spread her ashes over the site of the 'Happy Bottom Riding Club.' Permission was granted, and her son flew his airplane over the site and her ashes came to rest.

Kodachromes you could see on this post are extract to 270 photos Andre Zucca took during the German Occupation of Paris was shown collectively to the public for the first time. They were deliberately pedestrian: velo-taxis waiting for customers, bicyclists, well-dressed citizens strolling along the boulevards and in the parks, commuters in the Metro, crowed cafes, nightclubs and swimming pools full of young fashionable people. A very interesting handmade early 20's hunting jacket left my dressing room last month.
Nice brass 5 front buttons, large round collar, large pockets and very nice repairs and details on the canvas… Large stencils in particulary in the jackets (…PARIS) prove that this cloth were made with utilitarian fabrics, probably for industry or agriculture. Very simalar style as WWI "bourgeron" french militarian jacket…Great collectible french stuff…

First day in my new "atelier", LA MANUFACTURE, french artist studio and painting workshop.
Quiet, light and nature… deco is not end but studio is ready…MISTER FRENCH CANCAN is like a child…I will try not to transform this place in a vintage shop…very hard but, Miss French Cancan is on watch…!!!!

This summer, Tuscany is the perfect destination for friends and family but for the hunter, only one vintage shop adress (thanks to REDUX BLUE JEANS from Italy) and nothing else… the desert… So, if you know good adresses, flea markets, antiquity or vintage shops in Florence, Siena…don't hesitate ! don't be shy and be my travel guide…I wait for your coments…thanks in advance…!!!!

Those last months, weeks and days, Mister French Cancan spent all his time and
energy to move his artist studio and painting workshop in an old house called
"LA MANUFACTURE". Of course vintage and industrial furnitures and accessories compose the place yet but the hunt of good stuffs is not totaly end. One of the last piece need to be found… A 19th century blue patchwork quilt wich is expected by the old and destroyed leather easy chair…Mister cancan really knows 19th and early 20th blue patchworks and he uses to buy and sell those indigo treasures he finds in flea markets and old houses. But these are not the same patchworks he is now looking for…not the same, BUT REALLY SIMILAR FABRICS…

A great new brand is born this year in japan… dapper styling for roots dandy men…
ADJUSTABLE COSTUME team takes his 1900/1930's inspiration in great movies like "Death in Venice", "The Godfather"…

Kazuki Kodaka the owner of the the brand, worked for RMc Coys, Pherrows and Dry Bones and finlaly decided to manufcature and deal his own collection with Adjustable Costume this year in April during a very bad period for japan… Hopefully this new brand is now, with all the best japanese brands, in the international market place and will be for a long time again…
